After the birth of her second child, Sarah realised how much weight she had put on. Then she saw an advert for a charity bike ride in Cuba. A bit more glamorous in other words than slogging up the A1 in the freezing drizzle! Suitably seduced, she started riding an old mountain bike, joined a cycling club and got hooked. Sarah is now what is somewhat old-fashionably referred to as the ‘lady member’ and leads the Sunday morning social rides as well as time trialling and doing long distance Audaxes. Now she travels a lot with work, she has found that running is easy to do wherever she is in the world, so has started to run too, and loves it.
A toss up between managing 56miles off road in the Kielder 100 before having to stop due to missing a time cut off (she is not a natural moutainbiker and says she has too much of a sense of self preservation!), the 300km Audax and running the Great North Run.
Sarah loved the Vätternrundan so much she’s taking part again in 201 and she will also be taking part in the London Revolution two day cycling event on 16th & 17th May.
In 2014 Sarah completed her greatest achievement to date, cycling from Lands’ End to John O Groats’ in just nine days cycling 900 miles in total. This was the first time Sarah had attempted a distance quite so far and she surprised herself when she found it relatively easy and also was able to enjoy the picture perfect scenery on route.
Sarah also took part in the Vätternrundan, Sweden’s largest mass participation endurance event in 2014. With 23,000 other people Sarah, cycled the 300km long course around Sweden’s second largest lake.
